{"id":795,"date":"2017-11-28T13:19:08","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T21:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.obviouseditor.com\/?p=795"},"modified":"2023-08-19T11:41:04","modified_gmt":"2023-08-19T18:41:04","slug":"myriad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informalenglish.com\/go\/795\/","title":{"rendered":"Myriad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have myriad possibilities.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"quo\">The painting\u2019s installation elements \u2014 including a plastic vacuum tube filled with \u201calphabet dice\u201d \u2014 hint at <span class=\"highlighter\">myriad<\/span> possibilities. &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/entertainment\/visual-arts\/robert-mccauleys-paintings-combine-playful-appearance-with-serious-intent\/\">Seattle Times<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We have a myriad of possibilities.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"quo\">Thanksgiving is almost here, and with it comes huge platters of delicious food, pies as far as the eye can see, candy dishes full to the brim, and a <span class=\"highlighter\">myriad<\/span> of choking hazards that no one ever told you about. &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.romper.com\/p\/what-you-dont-know-about-choking-food-safety-may-surprise-you-3200510\">Romper<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Which one is it?<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"quo\">\u201c<em>&#8216;Myriad of&#8217; <\/em>is older than <span class=\"highlighter\">myriad<\/span> with the noun,\u201d [Prof.] Curzan explains. \u201cMyriad comes into English in the 16th century when the word originally means 10,000, a specific number.\u201d The word changed from referring to 10,000 of something, to meaning a countless number of something.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While &#8216;myriad possibilities&#8217; is taut, succinct &#8230; &#8216;a myriad of possibilities&#8217; is the original form. Either one is fine.
